The Assassins Creed franchise has kept us entertained on PC and consoles for quite a while. Assassin’s Creed Rebellion is a game made specifically for mobile and has clever mechanics to make you feel a part of the brotherhood.

The story of Assassin’s Creed is unique and combines both technology and history. Through Animus, a new DNA tracking software, mankind was able to look into the past through the genes of a descendent. The story is about the eternal battle between the Assassins Brotherhood and the Templars and this particular game is about their exploits in Spain.

Graphics has always been a strong suite for these games and it does not disappoint here. The 3D art has been carefully crafted to make you feel like you are in Spain. The characters have a toon like animation which is a little different than what I expected but it fits and works well for the mobile. However, the standout here is the music and Ubisoft has taken care to have a music score that justifies this games connection to the PC versions.

The gameplay is very unique and carefully blends strategy and RPG elements. This is a big gamble considering that the Assassins Creed games have been very action oriented. In every mission you can take in 3 assassins and make use of their unique abilities. You have to carefully choose which assassins to take for which missions. The missions create situations where you have to decide between stealth, escape or head on battle. These decisions depend a lot on the assassins you have chosen and their unique skills and abilities.

An innovation here is the ability to upgrade your own HQ. This lets you upgrade your characters skills, craft new weapons and gear and to even make sure that they get rest. In order to upgrade the HQ and make all the weapons and the gear, players need materials. These materials are acquired through missions. Along with story based missions, there are also missions that help you gather these materials as well as DNA fragments to get new assassins.

It has been interesting to see Assassins Creed being adopted to mobile in a way that is very different from its core. Having said that, the team has managed to main the essence of the franchise. This can be a heavy game for the mobile with high load times. It can also be difficult to understand for players not used to mobile strategy games. However it is definitely a worthy entry to the series.
